Halo 945 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the HALO 945 recessed light run on 277V commercial building power?
Yes. The 945 carries a 120-277V rating, so it works on standard 120V residential circuits and on 277V lighting branch circuits common in commercial and institutional buildings. That is the spec that lets you standardize the same trim across a tenant space on 277V and a back-of-house area on 120V.
2) Can the HALO 945 Ice Lite be used in a covered exterior soffit or a damp area like a bathroom?
The 945 is rated for indoor and outdoor installation locations, so covered soffits, porch ceilings and bath ceilings are within its listed use. The frosted glass trim is the enclosing element in those locations. For fully exposed exterior positions still confirm the housing behind it carries the matching rating, since the trim and the can are rated as an assembly.
3) Does the HALO 945 qualify for federally funded work under ARRA?
Yes, the 945 Metropolitan Ice Lite is flagged ARRA compliant, which is what procurement needs for American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funded projects. If you are buying for a government, education or healthcare job with ARRA strings attached, that is the box this fixture ticks.
4) Should I use a frosted glass trim like the HALO 945 or an open reflector trim?
Frosted glass diffuses the source across the whole aperture, which cuts glare and gives soft, even light. Pick it for corridors, offices, hospitality and bath areas where people look up into the ceiling. An open reflector or baffle trim keeps the light tighter and is the better choice when you want punch on a display or a work surface. The 945 is the diffused option.
5) How many finish or trim options does the HALO 945 Metropolitan Ice Lite come in?
One. The 945 is sold in a single configuration, frosted glass, under manufacturer part number 945. There is no separate trim color to specify on the order, so the part number is all you need to repeat the same fixture across a floor or a building.
6) Is the HALO 945 light enough to install in an old ceiling without added support?
At 0.91 pounds the 945 puts almost nothing on the ceiling, so it is an easy one-hand install overhead and adds negligible load to a lath or older gypsum ceiling. The structural work, if any, is driven by the housing behind it rather than this trim.
