1) Does the HALO CJB downlight need a housing or can it go straight into the ceiling?
No can needed. The CJB is a canless downlight with the junction box built into the fixture, so it installs directly into the ceiling opening and wires at the fixture instead of at a separate J-box above the plane. Two ordering paths: the plain canless models (CJB4069FS1EMW in 4 inch, CJB6099FS1EMW in 6 inch) and the 2-in-1 versions ending in R (CJB4069FS1EMWR, CJB6099FS1EMWR) that go in canless or drop into an existing recessed can as a retrofit.
2) I have existing 6 inch recessed cans in an apartment building. Will the HALO CJB retrofit into them?
Order the 2-in-1 version, CJB6099FS1EMWR. That model is built for either canless new construction or retrofit into an existing recessed can, so it's the one to spec when you're relamping occupied units and leaving the housings in place. The straight canless model, CJB6099FS1EMW, is not the retrofit configuration. Same choice exists at 4 inch: CJB4069FS1EMWR is the 2-in-1.
3) Do I have to order the HALO CJB in the color temperature I want, or can I set it on site?
Set it on site. The CJB is field selectable across 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K and 5000K at 90 CRI minimum, so one part number covers every room in the building and you pick the switch position at install. That matters on a fleet job: stock one SKU, run 3000K in residential units and 4000K or 5000K in corridors, garages and back-of-house, and you have no mismatched cartons on the truck.
4) Will the HALO CJB run on a 277V commercial circuit or is it 120V only?
The CJB carries a 120-277V rating, so it runs on standard 120V residential and light commercial branch circuits and on 277V lighting circuits common in offices, schools and retail. No separate part number or transformer for the higher voltage.
5) Is the HALO CJB LED downlight ARRA compliant for a federal or publicly funded project?
No. The CJB is not ARRA compliant, so if your project carries a Buy American / ARRA sourcing requirement, this fixture will not satisfy it and you need to source a compliant downlight instead. Worth settling before submittals rather than at inspection.
6) What is the difference between the 4 inch and 6 inch HALO CJB, and how much light does each put out?
Output tracks the aperture. The 4 inch runs 600 lumens, the 6 inch runs 900 lumens. Pick 4 inch where you want tighter spacing and a smaller ceiling cut (hallways, closets, over counters, small baths), 6 inch where you want fewer fixtures covering a general area. Both are available canless or as the 2-in-1 canless/retrofit.
7) Can the HALO CJB downlight be used in a covered porch or soffit, or is it indoor only?
It is rated for indoor and outdoor installation locations, so soffits, covered entries and breezeways are in scope alongside interior ceilings. That is one of the reasons it works as a standardization part on a property: the same fixture goes in the unit and under the eave.
8) Is 90 CRI good enough for retail display and healthcare spaces?
90 CRI minimum is the level specified for spaces where color has to read true: retail merchandise, exam and treatment areas, hospitality interiors, and any finish or paint work being judged under the light. Anything in the 80s will shift reds and skin tones. Since color temperature is field selectable from 2700K through 5000K on the same fixture, you can hold 90 CRI and still tune warm for guest rooms or neutral for clinical areas.
9) Do I need to run the LED downlight to a separate junction box in the ceiling?
No separate box. The junction box is integrated into the CJB fixture, so the branch circuit lands at the fixture itself. For an electrician that removes the box, the hanger bars and the coordination with framing that a traditional recessed can requires, which is what makes it fast in a remodel where you're fishing cable into an existing ceiling.
10) Are the HALO CJB LEDs replaceable, or is the whole fixture the light source?
