1) Will the Metallics SDS129 bit fit my rotary hammer, or do I need an SDS-Max tool?
The SDS129 has an SDS-Plus shank, so it drops into any SDS-Plus rotary hammer chuck. It will not fit an SDS-Max or spline-drive hammer, and it is not meant for a standard three-jaw keyed or keyless drill chuck. If your hammer takes the larger SDS-Max shank, you need an SDS-Max bit in the same 1/2 inch diameter instead.
2) Is the Metallics SDS129 sold as a single bit or in a set?
One bit per order. The SDS129 ships as a single 1/2 inch piece in a pouch, not as a multi-size kit, so if you are stocking a van or a shop for several anchor diameters you need to order each size separately.
3) What anchor size does a 1/2 inch SDS-Plus hammer bit drill for?
A 1/2 inch hole is the standard hole size for 1/2 inch wedge anchors, sleeve anchors and drop-in anchors in concrete, which is the usual size for mounting strut, panelboards, transformer racks and conduit supports. Concrete anchors are specified by hole diameter, so match the bit diameter to the anchor callout on the drawing rather than to the bolt size.
4) Can I use the Metallics SDS129 hammer bit to drill steel or wood?
No. The SDS129 is a hammer drill bit for masonry work, concrete, block and brick, driven in rotary-hammer mode. Steel needs a twist bit and wood needs an auger or spade bit; running a percussion masonry bit in either will wreck the tip and give you a sloppy hole.
