Metallics SDS1445 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Metallics SDS1445 drill bit fit my rotary hammer, or do I need an SDS-Max tool?
The SDS1445 has an SDS-Plus shank, so it drops into any SDS-Plus rotary hammer without a chuck or adapter. It will not fit an SDS-Max tool, and it is not meant for a keyed or keyless chuck on a standard drill. SDS-Plus is the 10mm-shank class used on the small and mid-size rotary hammers most electricians carry for anchor holes.
2) Is the Metallics SDS1445 sold as a single bit or in a multi-pack?
One bit per order, supplied in a pouch. If you are stocking a van or a facility crib and want spares on hand, order multiples.
3) Is a 1/4 inch SDS-Plus bit the right size for 1/4 inch concrete screw anchors?
Masonry screw anchors are specified by the carbide bit diameter that matches them, and the common 1/4 inch concrete screw calls for a 1/4 inch hole, which is what the SDS1445 drills. Expansion-type anchors are different: a 1/4 inch wedge or sleeve anchor usually wants a larger hole than its nominal size, so check the anchor manufacturer's hole diameter before you drill.
4) Can I use this hammer drill bit in concrete, block, and brick?
Yes. A carbide-tipped SDS-Plus bit run in hammer mode is for concrete, CMU block, brick, and stone. It is not a wood or metal bit, and drilling masonry on rotation-only without the hammer action will burn the tip.
