Metallics HAB12PLB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I use the HAB12PLB hanger bolt with 3/8 threaded rod for hanging conduit or strut?
Yes. The machine-thread end is 3/8, so it takes 3/8 nuts, washers, rod couplings, conduit hangers, and strut hardware, which is the standard trade size for overhead electrical and mechanical support. The bolt itself anchors into wood framing on the lag end, so it is how you transition from a wood joist to a 3/8 rod drop.
2) How do you install a hanger bolt like the Metallics HAB12PLB into a wood joist?
A hanger bolt has wood (lag) threads on one end and machine threads on the other, with no head. Drill a pilot hole in the joist, thread the lag end in by gripping the machine end with locking pliers or by running a nut and jam nut onto it and driving with a wrench, then back the nuts off. That leaves exposed 3/8 machine thread to hang a rod coupling, strut fitting, nut and washer, or a fixture hanger. Each box of the HAB12PLB carries 125 bolts at 3/8 x 6.
3) Is the Metallics HAB12PLB hanger bolt suitable for outdoor or damp locations?
The HAB12PLB is plated steel, which is a dry interior finish. For exterior, wet, or corrosive locations use a hot dip galvanized or stainless hanger bolt instead, since plating alone will rust where water sits.
4) How many hanger bolts come in a box of Metallics HAB12PLB?
125 pieces per box, all 3/8 x 6 plated steel. That is a bulk contractor quantity, so it suits a full fixture or conduit hanging run rather than a one-off repair.
5) What is the manufacturer part number for the Metallics 3/8 x 6 plated steel hanger bolt?
Order it as Metallics HAB12PLB. That part number is the 3/8 x 6 plated steel hanger bolt in the 125 piece box.
