1) What comes in the Oatey Hercules Haymaker tankless water heater descaler kit?
The Oatey 35235 Haymaker kit is a complete flush setup: 1 quart of Haymaker descaling solution, two 5-foot hoses with 3/4 inch NPT fittings, a 550 GPH electric re-circulation pump with a 25-foot power cord, and a 3.5 gallon pail. Nothing else is needed to circulate solution through a tankless unit beyond the isolation valves on the heater itself.
2) Will the Haymaker kit hoses connect to the service valves on my tankless water heater?
The two 5-foot hoses are fitted with 3/4 inch NPT ends, which is the standard hose/service port thread on tankless isolation valve kits. If your heater has purge ports on the isolation valves, the hoses thread straight on. Heaters without isolation valves need those installed first before any flush can be done.
3) Is Hercules Haymaker safe to use on a potable water system and a septic tank?
Yes on both counts. Haymaker is citric acid based, non-corrosive and VOC-free, stated safe for potable water systems and safe to discharge into septic systems and sewers. That matters for multi-family and light commercial work where the flush waste has nowhere to go but the building drain.
4) Can I use Haymaker descaler on an aluminum heat exchanger?
No. Haymaker is specified for descaling non-aluminum heat exchangers and water heaters. If the appliance has an aluminum exchanger, use a descaler the heater manufacturer approves for aluminum instead. On copper and stainless exchangers it is fine, and it is compatible with PVC, CPVC, ABS, rubber, steel and most metals in the connected piping.
