The HES 9800 Series is a low-profile, surface mounted electric strike designed to accommodate the Adams Rite 8800 & 8700 Series Rim Exit Devices. The HES 9800 is outdoor rated and exceeds Grade 1 standards for strength and performance. All functions are performed within the ½” thick strike body, which is protected by a sleek stainless steel cover to conceal the mounting screws and provide the most aesthetic appearance.

1/16” and 1/8” spacer plates are provided to accommodate varying door gaps. Place the electric strike on the surface of the frame, align it with the Starwheel or Interlock latching mechanism, and install.

1) Will the HES 9800 electric strike work with an Adams Rite 8800 or 8700 rim exit device?
That's exactly what the 9800 is built for. It's a surface mounted electric strike made to accommodate the Adams Rite 8800 and 8700 Series rim exit devices, and it works with the Starwheel and interlocking latchbolt styles those devices use. You set it on the face of the frame, line it up with the Starwheel or Interlock latching mechanism, and fasten it. Note that the same strike is also sold as the Adams Rite 7800 electric strike, so if a drawing calls out a 7800 you are looking at the same unit.
2) My door gap is bigger than the strike allows, can the HES 9800 be shimmed out?
Gap adjustment is built in. Every 9800 ships with one 1/16 inch and one 1/8 inch spacer plate in the box, and the strike also has horizontal adjustment so you can dial in alignment with the latch. Extra spacers can be ordered on their own as 9000-116-XXX for the 1/16 inch and 9000-108-XXX for the 1/8 inch, both available in 613E, 628E, 630 and BSP. There is also a 9000-ASB-XXX aluminum spacer bracket for aluminum frame conditions.
3) Can the HES 9800 strike go on an aluminum storefront frame, or is it hollow metal only?
Aluminum, hollow metal and wood frames are all covered. One caution on wood: the wood screws are not supplied with the strike, so plan to bring your own fasteners for that condition. For aluminum, the 9000-ASB-XXX aluminum spacer bracket and BN-250 blind nuts are the accessories that handle the mounting. A 9000-MTK metal template kit is available if you're laying out several openings.
4) Is the HES 9800 fail safe or fail secure, and do I have to pick when I order?
You don't pick at order time. The 9800 is field selectable, so the same unit can be set fail secure (stays locked when power drops) or fail safe (releases when power drops) at install. That matters on egress and on access control jobs where the fire alarm interface decides the mode late in the project. It's also non-handed, so one part number covers left and right hand openings.
5) What voltage and current draw should I size my power supply for on an HES 9800?
