1) Will the Trine 4850 electric strike work with a rim exit device that has a 1 inch latch throw?
Yes. The 4850's strike cavity is completely open rather than backed by a closed plate, so it accepts rim device latch throws incrementally up to 1 inch. That is the main reason to pick it over a surface strike with a closed backplate, which limits how deep the Pullman latch can project into the pocket.
2) How do I make up the gap between the door and the frame stop with a surface mounted rim strike?
The 4850 ships with a 1/4 inch spacer and two 1/16 inch spacers on top of the 1/2 inch thick strike body, which gives you six different mounting thicknesses off one part number. You shim to whatever your door and frame gap actually measures on site instead of ordering a specific depth up front.
3) Is the Trine 4850 fail safe or fail secure?
Field selectable. It is set fail secure as supplied, meaning the door stays locked when power drops and the exit device still lets people out from the inside. You can switch it to fail safe in the field if the opening needs to release on a power or alarm signal, so you do not have to decide at order time.
4) Is the HES 9700 a direct replacement for a Trine 4850?
Not in the general case. Both are surface mounted electric strikes and both are Grade 1, but the HES 9700 series is specific to Corbin Russwin SecureBolt and Yale SquareBolt exit devices, while the Trine 4850 is the surface mount strike for rim panic exit devices and ships with a 1/4 inch and two 1/16 inch spacer plates so the 1/2 inch body can be built out to six different thicknesses for a throw up to 1 inch. Swapping one for the other means confirming the exit device on the door first, not just the strike.
5) Is the Trine 4850 strong enough for a high traffic entrance?
It is a Grade 1 electric strike rated at over 1,000,000 life cycles with 1,500 plus pounds of holding force, which is the durability class you want on a main entry or a tenant door getting constant card reader traffic. It also uses a one piece locking mechanism with a single solenoid, so there are fewer moving parts to fail in service.
6) How do I get door status or latch monitoring back to my access control panel from a Trine 4850?
Order the LB option. Active latchbolt monitoring is a build option on the 4850, so you specify yes or no when you order, and it is available on every finish the strike is offered in. Pick it if your panel needs to know the latch is actually secured rather than just that the relay dropped.

No frame cutting.
