Sta-Kon RC2213 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon RC2213 fork terminal take?
The RC2213 is sized for 12-10 AWG copper conductor. The yellow nylon insulation is the color code for that range, so on a panel you can tell at a glance which barrel goes on which wire. Running it on 14-16 AWG will leave the strands loose in the barrel even after crimping, so step down to the blue (16-14) body for those conductors.
2) What stud or screw size does this yellow Sta-Kon fork terminal fit?
It is built for a No. 8 stud or screw. The fork slot slides over a loosened No. 8 terminal screw without pulling the screw all the way out, which is why fork tongues are used on crowded terminal strips and control panels.
3) Is the Sta-Kon RC2213 rated for 600 volt control and branch circuit work?
Yes, 600 V is the rating on this terminal, which covers standard commercial control panel, motor control, and branch circuit terminations. It is UL recognized under file E9809.
4) Why choose a locking fork terminal instead of a plain spade or a ring terminal?
Three different jobs. A ring terminal is the most secure but the screw has to come out completely to install or remove it. A plain spade slides on and off under a loosened screw, but nothing stops it backing out under vibration. The RC2213 is the locking fork version: the tongue has upturned tangs that grab under the screw head so it will not slip off sideways, while still installing without fully removing the screw. On equipment that gets serviced often but also sees vibration, that is the compromise you want.
5) Is the barrel on this Sta-Kon terminal copper or aluminum?
Copper. That makes it a copper-to-copper connection with copper conductor, which is what nearly all panel wiring, control wiring, and appliance leads use. It is not an AL/CU rated lug, so do not put aluminum conductor in it.
6) Do I need a special crimper for Sta-Kon RC2213 terminals?
Use a crimp tool matched to insulated nylon terminals in the 12-10 AWG range, set to the yellow die position. A color-coded insulated-terminal crimper indexes the yellow nest for this size. Do not crimp it with a non-insulated die or pliers; the nylon sleeve will split and the barrel will not compress to the correct profile.
7) Can I use this fork terminal on a No. 10 screw terminal block?
No. The RC2213 fork is cut for a No. 8 stud. A No. 10 screw will not pass into the slot, and forcing it distorts the tongue. Order the No. 10 version of the yellow 12-10 AWG locking fork instead.
8) What is the nylon insulation on the RC2213 doing that vinyl does not?
The insulation is nylon rather than vinyl. Nylon sleeves take more abrasion and handle higher temperatures than vinyl, and they resist splitting when the barrel is crimped or when the terminal is flexed at the wire entry. On panel work that gets pulled apart and re-landed, that matters more than the cost difference.
9) Is the Sta-Kon RC2213 made in the USA?
Country of origin on the RC2213 is the United States. For government, institutional, and utility work that carries domestic-sourcing requirements on electrical components, that is the answer to put on the submittal.
