Sta-Kon RC713M – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire gauge does the Sta-Kon RC713M ring terminal accept?
The RC713M takes 12 to 10 AWG conductor. That is the yellow color code on nylon insulated terminals, so if the barrel you are replacing is yellow you are in the right range. Running 14 or 16 AWG into it will not crimp reliably, and anything heavier than 10 AWG will not seat in the barrel.
2) Can I use these nylon insulated ring terminals on 480 volt panel wiring?
The RC713M carries a 600 V rating, so it covers 120/208, 277/480 and other common commercial branch and feeder control circuits up to 600 volts.
3) Is the Sta-Kon RC713M UL listed?
It carries UL file E9809. That is the record a facilities or institutional inspector will want cited for terminations in a panelboard or control enclosure.
4) Are these ring terminals copper or aluminum?
Copper barrel with a nylon insulating sleeve. Use them on copper conductor; they are not rated as AL/CU dual-rated connectors, so aluminum conductor needs a connector specifically marked for it.
5) Why choose a nylon insulated ring terminal over a vinyl one?
Nylon insulation takes more abuse than vinyl: it resists abrasion and cut-through when wires are pulled through a harness or bundled tight in a panel, and it flexes without splitting. The RC713M is the nylon version in yellow for 12-10 AWG. Vinyl barrels are the lower-cost choice for static, low-stress terminations indoors.
6) Are Sta-Kon ring terminals made in the USA?
Country of origin on the RC713M is the United States, which matters if you are buying against a domestic-preference or Buy American clause on a government or institutional job.
7) Do I need a special crimper for the Sta-Kon RC713M?
Crimp it with a tool sized for the yellow 12-10 AWG insulated terminal nest. Pliers or an undersized die will give you a joint that passes a visual check and fails a pull test. The RC713M is a crimp-only terminal, no solder required.
