Sta-Kon F2045 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon F2045 ferrule take?
The F2045 wire ferrule is sized for 6 AWG conductor, which is the 16 mm2 metric equivalent called out in its description. Stranded 6 AWG seats in the copper barrel and gets crimped; if your conductor is 8 AWG or 4 AWG, this is the wrong ferrule and you need the adjacent size in the series.
2) Is the Sta-Kon F2045 ferrule UL recognized?
Yes. The F2045 carries UL file E489056. For panel builds and control cabinets that get inspected to a UL listing, that file number is what you cite on the bill of materials.
3) Do I need a special crimper for the F2045 wire ferrule?
Yes, a ferrule crimper. Insulated ferrules in the 16 mm2 / 6 AWG range are crimped with a hex or four-indent ferrule tool sized for that cross-section; standard insulated-terminal pliers made for ring and fork tongue terminals will not form the barrel correctly. The crimp die has to match the 16 mm2 conductor size, not the outside of the blue collar.
4) What is the difference between a wire ferrule like the F2045 and a ring or fork terminal?
A ferrule has no tongue. The F2045 is a copper barrel with a blue polypropylene funnel collar that you crimp onto stranded 6 AWG so the strands become one solid pin, and that pin goes directly into a screw clamp, terminal block, or breaker lug. A ring or spade terminal, by contrast, lands under a stud or screw head. Use the ferrule when the device has a clamping terminal and you want to stop strand splay and loose connections from screw pressure.
5) Why is this ferrule blue, and does the color mean anything?
Blue is the color-coding on the F2045's polypropylene insulating collar. On insulated ferrules the collar color identifies the conductor size at a glance, so an inspector or the next electrician on the job can confirm a 6 AWG / 16 mm2 termination without pulling the wire. The color has no electrical function on its own.
6) Where is the Sta-Kon F2045 ferrule made?
Germany. For procurement buyers tracking country of origin on a submittal or trade-compliance document, the F2045 is a German-made part, ordered under manufacturer part number F2045.
