Sta-Kon RAX63 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire gauge does the Sta-Kon RAX63 ring terminal accept?
The RAX63 is sized for 26-24 AWG conductors, which is the smallest common control and signal wire range. Yellow is the color code on this barrel size, so don't confuse it with the yellow used on 12-10 AWG terminals from other series. If you're landing 22-18 or 16-14 wire, this barrel won't crimp down properly on it.
2) Can I use the Sta-Kon RAX63 ring terminal on a 480V control circuit?
The RAX63 carries a 600 V rating, so it covers 120V, 240V and 480V control and power circuits within that limit.
3) Is the RAX63 terminal barrel copper or aluminum?
Copper. That makes it a copper-conductor terminal, so use it on copper wire, not aluminum, and expect normal copper conductivity at the crimp.
4) Why use a ring terminal instead of a spade terminal on a control panel stud?
A ring like the RAX63 is a closed tongue, so the wire can't walk off the stud if the screw loosens. A spade (fork) slides off under a backed-off screw. For ground connections and anything subject to vibration, the ring is the right call; the fork is only worth it when you need to service the connection without fully removing the nut.
5) What's the difference between a nylon insulated ring terminal like the RAX63 and a vinyl insulated one?
The RAX63 uses a nylon insulating sleeve. Nylon takes abrasion and higher temperatures better than vinyl and resists cut-through when wires are pulled through a panel or bundled tight. For small-gauge control wiring in a cabinet where the harness gets handled, nylon is the usual spec.
6) Do I need a special crimper for the Sta-Kon RAX63?
Use an insulated-terminal crimper matched to the 26-24 AWG barrel range. A general-purpose tool set up for 22-10 AWG insulated terminals will over-crush or under-form a barrel this small, and the nylon sleeve will split. The terminal itself ships ready to crimp, no separate sleeve or insert.
7) Is the Sta-Kon RAX63 made in the USA?
Country of origin on the RAX63 is the United States, which matters if you're buying against a domestic-preference or Buy American line item on a government or institutional job.
