Warnings
- Do NOT use to pry or chisel.

- Always inspect your tools before use. Destroy tool if insulation becomes damaged in any way.
- Whenever possible, always de-energize lines and equipment prior to working on or around them. Klein insulated tools are designed only to reduce the chance of injury where the tool may make contact with an energized source.
- Only use tools that are marked with the official international 1000-volt rating symbol shown above, if there is any chance that the tools will make contact with an energized source.

Klein Tools 601-4-INS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Klein 601-4-INS screwdriver rated for live electrical work?
The 601-4-INS is a 1000V rated insulated screwdriver, built to IEC 60900 and ASTM F1505. The insulation is a molded dual-layer, flame-retardant system over the shank. Klein is explicit that it only reduces the chance of injury where the tool contacts an energized source: de-energize whenever possible, keep the tool clean and dry (moisture and surface films conduct), inspect before every use, and destroy the tool if the insulation is damaged in any way.
2) What does a 3/16-inch cabinet tip screwdriver do that a standard flat blade won't?
A cabinet tip is a flat tip with parallel sides rather than a flared blade, so it goes down into a recessed or counterbored screw hole without the blade shoulder catching on the sides. That is why it suits terminal screws set back in panel boards, switch and receptacle terminals, and control enclosures. The 601-4-INS carries a 3/16 inch (4.8 mm) cabinet tip.
3) Can I use the 601-4-INS for prying open a panel cover or scraping?
No. Klein warns specifically against prying or chiseling with it. Doing so risks splitting or lifting the insulation, and once the insulation is compromised the tool is no longer safe for energized work and must be destroyed, not set aside.
4) Is the shank on the Klein 601-4-INS magnetic?
No, the tip is not magnetized. The shank is round induction hardened steel. If you need a screw to hang on the tip while you start it one-handed in a box, this is not the driver for that, and a magnetic insulated driver is the better pick.
5) What is the handle made of on the Klein insulated screwdrivers?
High-dielectric plastic, molded in a dual-layer flame-retardant and impact-resistant construction. The two layers matter on the job: the outer layer is a contrasting color, so a nick that exposes the inner layer is a visible warning that the tool should be taken out of service.
