A single acting roller latch strike has its dimple offset for one swing direction only and will not hold consistently on a double acting opening.
2) I have a roller latch already in the door, can I just replace the strike with an STK685?
You can replace the strike alone if the existing latch is a roller latch and the opening is double acting. The STK685 is the strike half, sized to your frame depth, and it engages a roller latch through the centered dimple. What decides it is the frame depth measurement and the existing cutout in the frame, so measure the frame depth before ordering since the part is made to that number.
