Minerallac MED70 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Minerallac MED70 Jiffy Clip fit 1-1/4 inch EMT, or is it only for rigid and IMC?
The MED70 is sized for 1-1/4 inch Rigid and IMC conduit only. Rigid and IMC share the same outside diameter at a given trade size, so one clip covers both, but 1-1/4 inch EMT has a smaller OD and will sit loose in this strap. For EMT you need a strap built to the EMT trade size.
2) What surfaces can a one-hole Jiffy Clip conduit strap be fastened to?
The MED70 mounts to wood, steel, concrete, or a component surface through its single hole. The fastener is not included, so pick to suit: wood screw into framing, self-drilling screw into steel, or a concrete screw/anchor into masonry. Single-hole design means one fastener per support point, which is what makes it fast on long runs.
3) How much clearance do I need behind and around a 1-1/4 inch Minerallac conduit strap?
Overall the MED70 measures 1.68 in height, 1.00 in width, and 3.15 in length, formed from 0.09 in steel. The 1.00 in width is what matters when you are spacing parallel runs on strut or a wall, and the 1.68 in dimension sets how far the conduit stands off the mounting surface.
4) Is a zinc plated steel conduit strap OK for outdoor or damp locations?
The MED70 is stamped steel with a zinc plated finish, which handles indoor commercial and industrial environments and ordinary damp exposure. For sustained outdoor weather, washdown, coastal air, or corrosive process areas, step up to a hot-dip galvanized or stainless strap instead; plated zinc is a thin sacrificial coating, not a weatherproof one.
5) What is the difference between a snap-on Jiffy Clip and a standard two-hole conduit strap?
A two-hole strap pins the conduit with two fasteners and is the heavier, more rigid support. The MED70 Jiffy Clip uses a single hole and a snap-on body, so you fasten the clip first and press the conduit in afterward, which is much faster on a long overhead run and lets you adjust the pipe before it is captured. If the run carries heavy pull loads or needs to resist movement at a termination, use a two-hole strap there and clips through the rest of the run.
6) Is the Minerallac MED70 made in the USA?
Yes, the MED70 Jiffy Clip is manufactured in the United States. That matters on federally funded and institutional work with domestic-content requirements, where the strap has to be documented along with the conduit.
