Minerallac MED90 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Minerallac MED90 Jiffy Clip fit 2 inch EMT, or is it only for rigid and IMC?
The MED90 Jiffy Clip is sized for 2 inch Rigid/IMC conduit only. Rigid and IMC share the same outside diameter at a given trade size, so one clip covers both, but 2 inch EMT has a smaller OD and will not be held securely by this strap. For EMT you need a strap sized to EMT at that trade size.
2) Can a 2 inch conduit strap like the Minerallac MED90 be mounted to concrete?
Yes. The MED90 is rated for mounting to component, wood, steel, and concrete. It has a single mounting hole, so on concrete you supply one anchor (a concrete screw or a shield-type anchor) sized to that hole. No fastener is included with the strap itself.
3) What does the snap-on design on the Minerallac Jiffy Clip actually save on install?
You fasten the strap to the surface first with its one screw or anchor, then press the 2 inch conduit into the clip and it snaps over. That means no holding the pipe in one hand while driving a fastener, and no two-piece strap and screw to juggle overhead. It is the main labor difference between a Jiffy Clip and a conventional two-hole strap on a long run.
4) Is the Minerallac MED90 conduit strap OK for damp or outdoor locations?
The MED90 is zinc plated steel, which gives corrosion resistance for indoor and sheltered work. Zinc plating is a light coating, so for direct weather exposure, wash-down areas, or corrosive industrial atmospheres, a hot-dip galvanized or stainless strap holds up longer.
5) What is the exact part number to order a 2 inch Minerallac Jiffy Clip?
Order Minerallac MED90. That is the medium duty Jiffy Clip for 2 inch trade size Rigid/IMC in zinc plated steel, a single-hole strap in a silver finish.
6) How much clearance do I need behind and around a Minerallac MED90 2 inch conduit clip?
The clip measures 2.450 in by 1.250 in by 4.300 in. The 1.250 in dimension is the strap width, so it takes up just over an inch along the length of the pipe, which matters when you are spacing clips tightly or working next to a box or coupling.
7) Is the Minerallac MED90 made in the USA?
Yes, the MED90 Jiffy Clip is manufactured in the United States, which is what procurement groups with domestic-sourcing requirements need on record for a conduit support line item.
