1) What comes in the box with an Ilco 7076 rim cylinder, and do I need anything else to install it?
Each 7076 ships with a rigid tailpiece already installed, a lazy action (lost motion) tailpiece loose in the box, a trim ring, a mounting plate, and break-off screws. That is everything needed to mount it through the door and set the screw length for your door thickness. You supply nothing extra for the mounting itself, though the device it drives (exit device, rim lock) is separate.
2) How do I choose between the Ilco 7076 and a Medeco high security rim cylinder?
The 7076 is a conventional brass rim cylinder for standard commercial keying, and its strength is keyway breadth, 31 keyways so it drops into whatever system a building already runs. If the opening needs key control and attack resistance instead, ZenSupply carries the Medeco 100400H, a 6-pin 1-1/8 inch rim cylinder with horizontal/vertical tailpiece that is UL 437 listed, Grade 1 and heavy duty. 3) What is the difference between a rim cylinder and a mortise cylinder, and which one do I need?
A rim cylinder like the 7076 mounts from the outside face of the door and is held by a mounting plate and two screws on the inside, driving the device through a flat tailpiece. A mortise cylinder instead threads into the lock body. If you are replacing the key cylinder on a rim exit device or a surface-mounted rim lock, a rim cylinder is what you want. If the cylinder you pulled out has threads around its body, that is a mortise cylinder and this one will not go in.

Keyway compatibility and mounting style are separate decisions: matching the key does not by itself match a Sargent-specific mounting pattern.

Construction master keying lets trades work the site on a temporary key that is voided once the permanent key is first used, which is the normal setup on a building turnover. Order every cylinder in the same keyway so the whole fleet keys to one system.
