Kawneer KW027278 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Kawneer KW027278 and what does it do on a Tuffline door?
KW027278 is Kawneer's pile weathering, a brush-style weatherstrip that runs along the door perimeter on Tuffline door systems. It is a genuine Kawneer service part, so it seals against air and moisture infiltration the same way the pile that came on the door did. It is a wear item, replaced when the pile flattens, tears, or pulls out of its retaining groove and the door starts leaking air.
2) I manage a building with several Tuffline entrances. Can I order the same pile for all of them?
If the doors are all Kawneer Tuffline, KW027278 is the one pile weathering part to standardize on across the openings. That's the point of buying the genuine Kawneer service part rather than a generic pile: same profile, same seal, no fitting differences door to door. Order by the KW027278 model number and keep spares on the shelf, since pile is the component that wears out before the door does.
3) My Tuffline door is whistling and letting drafts through. Is replacing the pile the right fix?
If the leak is along the stiles or meeting edge and the pile looks matted, missing, or torn, yes. Pile weathering is the perimeter seal, and once it loses loft it stops making contact. KW027278 restores that seal. If the draft is at the threshold or the bottom rail instead, you're looking at a door sweep or threshold, not this part, so check where the light shows through before you order.
4) Is the KW027278 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
Genuine. It is Kawneer-sourced and built to the original Tuffline door specification, which matters on specified jobs and in facilities where the door package has to stay as-built. For a distributor or a spec-driven institutional buyer, the identity to quote is Kawneer, model KW027278, pile weathering.
5) Is this Kawneer pile weathering suitable for commercial storefront entrances or is it a residential part?
Commercial. The KW027278 pile is rated for commercial door hardware use, which is where Tuffline doors are installed in the first place: office buildings, schools, healthcare, retail, and municipal entrances. It is the part a maintenance program buys to keep those openings sealing through heavy daily traffic.
