Kawneer KW035143-29 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Kawneer KW035143-29 cylinder guard package actually do on an exit device?
It shields the lock cylinder on a commercial exit device from tampering, pulling, and forced-entry attempts, and from everyday wear at the cylinder face. It ships as a complete kit rather than a loose ring, so it goes on as a service replacement during normal maintenance of the door hardware.
2) What finish is the Kawneer KW035143-29 cylinder guard and will it match my existing door trim?
Black, applied at the factory, so it matches Kawneer exit device trim already in a black finish. If the rest of the storefront hardware is anodized aluminum or bronze, this one will read as a contrasting part at the cylinder.
3) I manage a building with several Kawneer storefront doors. Can I order one part number to cover all of them?
Only where the doors use black-finish Kawneer exit devices that take this guard. The KW035143-29 is a single-configuration service part, ordered by that one model number, so standardizing across a property works if the device assemblies match. Openings with a different Kawneer device or a different finish need their own guard part.
4) Does the KW035143-29 package include a lock cylinder?
No. It is a cylinder guard kit only, supplied to protect a cylinder that is already in the device. The mortise or rim cylinder, keyway, and keying are ordered separately.
5) Is this a residential part or rated for commercial door traffic?
Strictly commercial. The KW035143-29 is catalogued as a commercial-grade exit device part, built for storefront and institutional openings in offices, schools, healthcare, retail, warehouses, and government buildings, not for residential entry doors.
