Kawneer KW037233-29 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Kawneer KW037233-29 intermediate pivot handed, and which hand is it?
Right-hand. The KW037233-29 is built specifically for right-handed door applications, so a left-hand opening needs the opposite-hand pivot instead. Handing a pivot wrong is the most common way one of these gets returned, so determine the hand at the door before ordering.
2) Can I use the Kawneer KW037233-29 on a non-Kawneer aluminum storefront door?
Treat it as a Kawneer-only part. It is specified as a service replacement for compatible Kawneer door assemblies, and pivot prep varies between storefront manufacturers. If the door is another brand, match the pivot to that manufacturer's system rather than substituting this one.
3) What does an intermediate pivot like the Kawneer KW037233-29 actually do on an aluminum door?
An intermediate pivot carries load between the top and bottom pivots on a center-hung or offset-hung door, keeping the leaf aligned and taking stress off the closer and the bottom pivot. The KW037233-29 is the right-hand, offset-optional version, sold as a genuine Kawneer service replacement to restore original pivot function on compatible Kawneer door assemblies.
4) Is the KW037233-29 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
Genuine Kawneer. It is catalogued as a Kawneer service part, made to the original specifications for Kawneer door assemblies, which is what makes it drop in where an aftermarket pivot may not line up with existing prep.
5) Does the KW037233-29 come with the exit device or door closer, or is it the pivot alone?
Pivot alone. It is sold as an individual replacement part for Kawneer exit device door assemblies, not as a kit. Any closer, exit device, top or bottom pivot the job needs is ordered separately.
6) Is this pivot suitable for a high-traffic commercial entrance, or is it a residential part?
Commercial. The KW037233-29 is a commercial-grade pivot intended for high-use door openings such as office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, warehouses and government buildings. It is not sold as residential hardware.
7) What finish does the Kawneer KW037233-29 pivot come in, and is there another choice?
Black only. The pivot ships with a factory-applied black finish and is offered in that single configuration, so if the rest of the pivot set on the opening is clear anodized or dark bronze, the hardware will not visually match.
