Kawneer KW037233-17 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Kawneer KW037233-17 intermediate pivot handed, and will it work on a left-hand door?
The KW037233-17 is factory-configured for right-hand doors only. On a left-hand opening it will not align correctly, so you need the left-hand version of the pivot instead. Stand outside the opening and check which side the hinge stile is on before you order.
2) What does an intermediate pivot actually do on an aluminum storefront door?
An intermediate pivot is the middle pivot point on a center-hung or offset-pivot aluminum door, sitting between the top pivot and the bottom pivot or floor closer. It carries alignment load and keeps the door hanging plumb so it closes and latches properly. The KW037233-17 is the right-hand version used to restore that alignment in Kawneer door systems.
3) Is the KW037233-17 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
It is a genuine Kawneer service replacement part, not an aftermarket equivalent, so the hole pattern and geometry match the original equipment it came out of.
4) What does "offset optional" mean when ordering the Kawneer KW037233-17?
Offset optional means the pivot is laid out so it can suit offset pivot arrangements as well as the standard frame condition, depending on the pivot set and frame prep in your door. Match it to how the existing top and bottom pivots are set on the door you are repairing.
5) What finish is the Kawneer KW037233-17 pivot, and will it match my existing storefront doors?
Clear aluminum, which is the standard mill finish on most commercial aluminum storefront and entrance systems. If your doors are dark bronze or black anodized, the pivot itself is largely concealed at the hinge stile once installed, but the exposed leaf will read silver against a dark frame.
6) Is this pivot rated for high-traffic commercial entrances or is it a residential part?
Commercial. The KW037233-17 is built as a commercial-grade pivot for Kawneer entrance systems and is used in offices, schools, healthcare buildings, retail, industrial facilities, and government properties, not residential doors.
7) Do I need to replace both the top and bottom pivots when I change an intermediate pivot?
Not necessarily. The KW037233-17 is sold as an individual service replacement part, so it can go in on its own when the intermediate pivot is the worn item. If the door has dropped or is binding at the bottom rail, the bottom pivot or floor closer is usually the culprit and should be inspected at the same time.
