Kawneer KW037234-17 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Kawneer KW037234-17 pivot left hand or right hand?
The KW037234-17 is the left-handed intermediate pivot. Pivots are handed, so a left-hand opening needs the left-hand part; a right-hand door takes the opposite-hand pivot instead. Confirm the hand at the door before ordering, since the part will not function correctly on the opposite swing.
2) What does an intermediate pivot do on a Kawneer aluminum door?
An intermediate pivot carries the door between the top and bottom pivots, holding alignment and taking part of the load so the leaf swings true. The KW037234-17 is the Kawneer service replacement for that position, used to restore proper door operation and alignment in Kawneer door systems.
3) Is the KW037234-17 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
It is a genuine Kawneer service part, sold under Kawneer's own model number KW037234-17, so fit matches the original equipment on Kawneer door systems rather than an approximated aftermarket profile.
4) What does offset optional mean on this Kawneer pivot?
Offset optional means the KW037234-17 can be set up for offset pivot requirements, giving flexibility in how it mounts within Kawneer door systems rather than being fixed to a single center-hung arrangement.
5) Will the clear aluminum finish on this pivot match my existing storefront doors?
The KW037234-17 comes in clear aluminum, the standard anodized look used across Kawneer architectural door framing, so it blends with clear-finish storefront and entrance doors. If your openings are dark bronze or black anodized, you would want the pivot in that finish instead.
6) Do I get the whole pivot assembly or just one piece with the KW037234-17?
Ordering KW037234-17 gets you the single left-handed intermediate pivot as a replacement part. A full door rehang would also need the top and bottom pivots, which are separate Kawneer service parts; the intermediate is only the mid-height hardware.
7) Is this pivot rated for commercial traffic or is it a residential part?
Strictly commercial. The KW037234-17 is a commercial-grade pivot intended for high-use door hardware applications, and it turns up in office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential buildings, and government properties.
