Kawneer KW037284-17 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What voltage does the Kawneer AR 7130 electric strike run on?
The AR 7130 electric strike, Kawneer part KW037284-17, runs on either 24VAC or 12VDC, so it can be wired to most commercial access control power supplies without a separate converter. Confirm which of the two your panel or transformer outputs before you wire it in, since either will drive the strike.
2) Will the Kawneer KW037284-17 strike work on a pair of doors or a double acting door?
No. The KW037284-17 AR 7130 strike is built for single acting door applications only. For a double acting opening or a pair without a fixed jamb for the strike to mount into, this is the wrong part and you need hardware prepped for that configuration.
3) I'm replacing a failed electric strike in a Kawneer entrance. Do I have to modify the frame for the KW037284-17?
Not if the opening already has an AR 7130 strike in it. The KW037284-17 is built as a drop in replacement within compatible AR 7130 installations, so it reuses the existing jamb prep and wiring run. If the opening currently carries a different strike model or a different brand, treat it as a new install and verify the pocket before you cut.
4) Is the Kawneer AR 7130 electric strike a genuine OEM part or an aftermarket copy?
It's a genuine Kawneer service part, sold as the OEM replacement for AR 7130 electric strike installations. That matters on Kawneer aluminum entrances because the jamb pocket and prep are cut to Kawneer's own dimensions, and an OEM strike drops into the existing prep rather than requiring rework of the frame.
5) Will a clear aluminum electric strike match my existing Kawneer storefront doors?
Clear aluminum is the standard mill finish used across Kawneer architectural aluminum door systems, so the KW037284-17 blends with clear anodized storefront framing. If your entrances were specified in a dark bronze or painted finish, the exposed faceplate will read lighter than the surrounding jamb.
6) Is this Kawneer electric strike rated for commercial traffic or is it a light duty residential part?
Commercial. The AR 7130 strike is catalogued as a commercial product and is used on office building entries, retail storefronts, schools, healthcare and government buildings, and warehouse entry points, all high cycle openings under access control.
