Kawneer KW037284-40 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What voltage does the Kawneer AR 7130 electric strike run on?
The AR 7130 electric strike, Kawneer part KW037284-40, runs on either 24VAC or 12VDC, so it can be wired into most common access control power supplies and card reader setups without an extra transformer or converter. Confirm which of the two your existing panel or power supply puts out before you land the wiring.
2) Can I use the Kawneer KW037284-40 strike on a double acting door?
No. The AR 7130 in this configuration is built for single acting doors only, meaning a door that swings one direction into a frame stop. A double acting (two way swing) opening needs different hardware, since there is no fixed strike jamb for this unit to latch into.
3) Is the KW037284-40 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket strike?
It is a genuine Kawneer service replacement part, not an aftermarket copy. That matters on aluminum storefront work because the frame prep is proprietary to the Kawneer door system, and an OEM strike drops into the existing cutout rather than requiring the jamb to be re-machined.
4) I have a Kawneer entrance with an exit device. Is this strike the right replacement part for that opening?
The KW037284-40 is an AR 7130 electric strike supplied as a Kawneer exit device replacement part, so it is intended to restore an existing Kawneer door assembly that was originally built with an AR 7130 configuration. Check that the door is single acting and that the original strike carries the AR 7130 designation, since Kawneer's other frame preps take different strikes.
5) Will this Kawneer electric strike match my existing dark bronze storefront doors?
It comes with a factory-applied Dark Bronze finish, which is Kawneer's standard architectural bronze used across their aluminum entrance systems. If the rest of the openings in the building are Kawneer dark bronze, the strike face will read consistent with them.
6) Do I need a separate power supply and access control panel for the AR 7130 strike?
Yes. An electric strike is a release device only, it does not generate its own power. You supply either 24VAC or 12VDC from an access control power supply, and the release is triggered by whatever controls it, a card reader, keypad, or push button. The strike itself is the only item here; wiring, transformer, and controller come separately.
7) Is this electric strike rated for commercial traffic or is it a residential part?
Strictly commercial. Kawneer catalogs the KW037284-40 as commercial-grade hardware, and the typical uses are office building entrances, schools, healthcare entries, retail and hospitality, government buildings, warehouses, and multi-tenant properties. It is not a residential strike.
