Kawneer KW037290-17 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW037290-17 paddle work on a left-hand door?
No. The KW037290-17 paddle push is built right-handed, so it only orients correctly on a right-hand opening. Putting it on a left-hand door leaves the paddle facing the wrong way and the latchlock won't retract properly. For a left-hand leaf you need the opposite-hand version of the part.
2) What door thickness does the Kawneer KW037290-17 paddle push fit?
It is made for 1-3/4 inch doors, which is the standard commercial aluminum door thickness. Thinner leaves change the paddle-to-latch geometry, so this part is specified for 1-3/4 inch only.
3) What part of a Kawneer exit device is the KW037290-17?
It is the push paddle assembly, the part the person exiting pushes to retract the latch on a Kawneer latchlock exit device. It is a service component, not a complete exit device, so the rest of the latchlock hardware has to already be on the door.
4) Is the KW037290-17 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
Genuine Kawneer service part, supplied through authorized channels. That matters on aluminum storefront work because the paddle has to index to the existing Kawneer latchlock mechanism, and a generic paddle will not pick up the same linkage.
5) What finish is the Kawneer KW037290-17 paddle, and will it match my existing storefront doors?
Clear aluminum, the standard mill-type finish on commercial aluminum entrances. It blends with clear-anodized storefront framing and hardware. If your doors are dark bronze or black anodized, this paddle will stand out and you should order the matching finish instead.
6) Do I need to order anything else to replace a broken paddle on a Kawneer latchlock?
The KW037290-17 covers the paddle push element only. The latch, cylinder, and any pull or trim on the outside stay as they are, so a straight paddle failure is a one-part fix. Confirm the hand of the leaf before you order, since this piece is right-handed.
7) Can I use this paddle to repair a latchlock device in a school or hospital exit door?
Yes, it is a commercial-grade service part and is used on office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, industrial, and government openings. Because it restores the push function on an existing Kawneer latchlock device, the device's original egress behavior is what governs the opening.
