Kawneer KW037873 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the KW037873 threshold work on a pair of doors?
No. The KW037873 is made for a B/H single door assembly with a surface closer and standard locking. A pair of doors needs the threshold configured for that opening, so ordering this one for a double leaf will leave you with the wrong machining.
2) Does this Kawneer threshold suit a door with a concealed overhead closer instead of a surface closer?
It is built for openings running a surface-mounted closer. Kawneer service thresholds are machined to the specific hardware configuration of the assembly, so an opening with a concealed or floor closer takes a different part number. Confirm the closer type on the existing door before ordering.
3) Is the KW037873 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
It is a Kawneer service part, made to the original assembly's specifications, so the hole pattern and profile match what came out of the opening. That matters on aluminum storefront work, where an aftermarket threshold usually means re-drilling the frame.
4) Can I use this threshold in a residential entry door?
The KW037873 is a commercial-rated component for Kawneer aluminum door assemblies. A residential wood or fiberglass entry uses a different threshold entirely and there is no fit path from this part to that opening.
5) Does the KW037873 threshold come with anchors or fasteners?
The part supplied is the threshold itself. Plan on sourcing the anchors, sealant, and any shim material your slab condition calls for as part of the same job so the crew is not stopped mid-install.
6) What is the point of replacing a worn threshold on a storefront door?
A worn threshold stops sealing at the door bottom, which lets water and air past and throws off the closer's stop and latch alignment. The KW037873 is a direct replacement for the damaged piece on a B/H single door, so you restore the weather seal and the correct bottom clearance without rebuilding the opening. It is a standard maintenance item in offices, schools, healthcare, retail, and multi-tenant buildings.
