Kawneer KW038118-29 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the KW038118-29 door closer handed?
Yes, it is a left-handed part. Handing is not field-reversible on this one, so confirm the swing of the opening before ordering. A right-handed opening takes the opposite-hand Kawneer part number.
2) Is the KW038118-29 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
It is a Kawneer service part, built to OEM standards so the replacement performs the same as the closer that came in the original device. That matters on Kawneer aluminum entrances, where the closer is packaged to the device rather than mounted as a standalone unit.
3) Is the KW038118-29 a complete exit device or just the closer?
Just the closer. It is a replacement component that goes into a 48 inch exit device, not the device itself. If the panic hardware is also being replaced, order the device separately.
4) What finish is the Kawneer KW038118-29 closer supplied in?
Black. If the other doors in the entrance run a different finish, the closer will read as a mismatch, so property managers standardizing an elevation should check what is on the adjacent openings first.
5) Is this closer suitable for a high-traffic commercial entrance?
Yes. The KW038118-29 is a commercial-duty service part used in office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential, and government buildings.
