Kawneer KW038118-40 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW038118-40 closer work on a right-handed door?
No. The KW038118-40 is the left-handed configuration of the LCN 5036 closer assembly. Handing is built into the part, so a right-hand opening needs the opposite-hand version. Confirm the hand by standing outside the door: if the hinges are on your left and the door swings away from you, it is left-handed.
2) Is the Kawneer KW038118-40 a hold-open closer?
No, it is the non-hold-open version. The door closes and latches every cycle with no stop-and-stay position, which is what you want on an opening that has to stay latched rather than be propped at a set angle.
3) Is the KW038118-40 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket closer?
It is a genuine Kawneer service part, supplied to restore the original LCN 5036 closer assembly in Kawneer door systems rather than substitute a generic closer. For a facility standardized on Kawneer entrances, that keeps the replacement matching the original build.
4) Do I get a complete exit device with the KW038118-40, or just the closer?
Just the closer component. The KW038118-40 is a replacement part for an existing LCN 5036 closer assembly on a Kawneer exit device, so the device, trim and rods stay in the door and only the closer is swapped.
5) What finish does the Kawneer KW038118-40 closer come in?
Dark Bronze. If the other entrances in the building are running Dark Bronze Kawneer hardware, this drops in without an odd-colored closer on one leaf.
6) Is this closer part rated for commercial traffic or is it a residential item?
Commercial. The KW038118-40 is a commercial door hardware service part used on Kawneer exit device openings in offices, schools, healthcare, retail, warehouse and municipal buildings.
