Kawneer KW047215-29 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What lock does the Kawneer KW047215-29 face plate fit?
The KW047215-29 weatherized radius face plate is built for the Kawneer MS 1893 latch lock. It is a genuine Kawneer service part, so it drops into an existing MS 1893 assembly as a like-for-like replacement without modifying the hardware. If the lock body in your door is anything other than an MS 1893, this is not the plate for it.
2) Is a radius face plate the right shape, or do I need a flat one?
This Kawneer plate has a radius (curved) face profile, matched to the contour of the MS 1893 latch lock pocket. Pull the existing plate and look at the edge that sits in the door stile: if it is curved, the radius plate is your match. A square-cut edge means you need the flat-face version instead, not this one.
3) Is this a complete latch lock or just the face plate?
Just the face plate. The KW047215-29 is a replacement component only, so it does not include the MS 1893 lock body, cylinder, strike, or screws. If the lock itself has failed, order the lock; this part is for a damaged, corroded, or mismatched face plate.
4) Can the Kawneer KW047215-29 plate be used on an exterior entrance door?
Yes. It is the weatherized version of the MS 1893 face plate, made for exterior commercial openings where the hardware sees rain and temperature swings. That is the main thing separating it from a standard face plate.
5) What finish is the KW047215-29 supplied in, and will it match my storefront?
Black only. On a dark bronze or black anodized aluminum storefront it blends in; against a clear anodized or aluminum finish it will read as a contrast at the lock edge. Property managers standardizing a building should check the other entrances before ordering a run of these.
6) What part number do I give my supplier for the weatherized MS 1893 face plate?
Kawneer model KW047215-29. That number covers the weatherized radius face plate in black; there are no size or finish choices to specify beyond it.
