Kawneer KW050900-17 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Kawneer KW050900-17 and what does it do on a door?
The KW050900-17 is a low energy power assist door closer from Kawneer, supplied in a clear aluminum finish. It gives power-assisted, controlled closing on commercial entrances rather than plain manual closing. It is sold as a genuine Kawneer service replacement part for Kawneer door systems, so the usual use case is restoring an existing installation rather than a new build from scratch.
2) Will the KW050900-17 closer fit door systems from other manufacturers?
Treat it as a Kawneer-only part. It is built as an authentic Kawneer service component for fit, form and function on Kawneer door systems, so it should be specified when you are servicing Kawneer aluminum entrances. If the opening carries another manufacturer's storefront or entrance system, source a closer made for that system instead.
3) Is this closer suitable for a residential front door?
No. The KW050900-17 is classified as commercial hardware and is intended for commercial aluminum entrance systems, offices, schools, healthcare, government, retail and industrial facility doors. A house door is the wrong application for it.
4) Is the KW050900-17 a repair part or a complete new closer assembly?
It is catalogued and supplied as a replacement part, meaning it is the component you order to restore an existing Kawneer closer installation on a commercial opening. Property managers and maintenance teams use it as a like-for-like service item so the door keeps operating to the original spec.
5) What finish is the Kawneer KW050900-17 and will it match my existing aluminum entrance?
Clear aluminum. That is the standard mill-type finish used across commercial aluminum door and frame systems, so it blends with clear anodized storefront hardware. If your other openings are dark bronze or black anodized, this one will stand out and you would want the matching finish version instead.
6) Is there more than one version of the KW050900-17 to choose from when ordering?
No options to select. The KW050900-17 is ordered as a single configuration in clear aluminum, so there is no handing, size or finish choice to specify on the order.
