Kawneer KW118405-29 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Kawneer KW118405-29 and what part of the door does it go in?
The KW118405-29 is an intermediate door pivot, a genuine Kawneer service part for Tuffline aluminum doors. It carries the door at the intermediate pivot point so the leaf swings on a controlled arc, and it is sold as a direct replacement for a worn or damaged original pivot. Finish is black.
2) Will the KW118405-29 pivot fit a storefront door that isn't a Kawneer Tuffline?
No. This pivot is built specifically for Kawneer Tuffline doors, and pivot hardware is cut to the door manufacturer's prep. If your leaf is another Kawneer series or another brand of aluminum door, match the pivot to that series instead of using this one.
3) Is this pivot rated for a commercial entrance or is it a light-duty residential part?
It's a commercial part. Kawneer classifies the KW118405-29 as commercial door hardware for Tuffline door systems, which is what you see on office buildings, schools, healthcare and retail entrances rather than residential openings.
4) I'm replacing a pivot on a Tuffline door with a panic device, do I need to pull the exit device too?
The pivot is an independent hardware item from the exit device. Kawneer groups the KW118405-29 with exit device parts because it lives on egress openings running panic hardware, but it replaces only the intermediate pivot. Your existing panic device, rods and strikes stay in place.
5) What finish does the KW118405-29 come in, and can I get it to match a dark anodized Tuffline entrance?
Black is the finish on the KW118405-29, which is the only option on this pivot. It reads correctly against dark bronze and black anodized Tuffline doors. If your entrance is clear anodized or a painted color, order the matching pivot part number for that finish rather than this one.
6) Do I order the KW118405-29 by hand, left or right?
There is no handing choice to make here. The KW118405-29 ships as one part number with no left or right option, so you order the same pivot regardless of which way the Tuffline leaf swings.
