Kawneer KW133480-29 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Kawneer KW133480-29 and what device does it belong to?
KW133480-29 is a genuine Kawneer service replacement part for the Falcon 1790 rim exit device, supplied in a 36 inch configuration with a Black finish. It is a service component for an existing 1790 rim device installation, not a complete exit device, so you would order it to restore a device already hanging on the door rather than to hardware a new opening.
2) Will the 36 inch Kawneer Falcon 1790 part work on a 42 inch or 48 inch door?
No. The KW133480-29 is built for 36 inch door applications and matches the original 36 inch device configuration. A wider leaf needs the part sized for that door width, so measure the existing device before ordering.
3) Is the Black finish on the KW133480-29 going to match my existing Falcon 1790 hardware?
It is the Black finish Kawneer supplies for the Falcon 1790 rim device, so it matches the original device appearance on a Black storefront opening. If the rest of your doors run aluminum or dark bronze, order the part in that finish instead rather than mixing a black component into the run.
4) Is this an OEM Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
It ships as an authorized Kawneer service part, carrying the manufacturer's own part number KW133480-29. For facilities standardized on Kawneer storefront doors, that matters: aftermarket exit device components frequently miss the rail and mounting hole pattern of the original 1790.
5) Rim exit device versus vertical rod: which do I need on a Kawneer aluminum storefront door?
A rim device like the Falcon 1790 latches into a strike on the frame head or at the stop, so it suits a single door or one leaf of a pair with a mullion. Pairs without a mullion need a vertical rod device latching top and bottom instead. Since KW133480-29 is a 1790 rim service part, order it only if the device already on the door is a rim type.
6) Is the Falcon 1790 rim device part suitable for a school or hospital door, or is it residential grade?
It is a commercial-grade component, used on office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, industrial buildings, multi-tenant residential and government properties. It is not a residential product.
