Kawneer KW133482-29 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Kawneer KW133482-29 a complete exit device or just a replacement component?
It is a service replacement part for the Falcon 1790 rim exit device, not a complete device assembly. Order it when you are restoring an existing 1790 installation on a 48 inch door rather than outfitting a new opening.
2) Will this Kawneer part work on a Falcon exit device that is not a 1790 rim device?
No. The KW133482-29 is engineered for the Falcon 1790 rim exit platform specifically. Surface vertical rod, concealed rod, and mortise exit devices use different rail and latch geometry, so identify the series stamped on your device before ordering.
3) What finish does the Kawneer KW133482-29 come in, and will it match existing 1790 hardware?
Black. It is a factory finish intended to match other Black-finished Falcon 1790 hardware on the same or adjacent openings, which matters if you are repairing one leaf of a storefront pair and want the two to read the same.
4) Do I need a genuine Kawneer service part, or can I use an aftermarket exit device rail?
For a Kawneer aluminum entrance running a Falcon 1790, the KW133482-29 is the authentic Kawneer service part, which means factory-spec dimensions and material compatibility with the hardware already on the door. Aftermarket rails are not dimensioned to the 1790 platform, and on egress hardware a mismatch in rail length or latch alignment is the difference between a door that latches and a code problem for the building.
5) Does a rim exit device like the Falcon 1790 work on a pair of doors?
A rim device latches into a strike at the edge of the opening, so on a pair of doors it needs a removable mullion or an active leaf with a fixed strike. If you have a pair with no mullion and want both leaves to swing free, a surface vertical rod device is the type that handles that, not a rim device. The KW133482-29 serves the rim 1790 platform only.
6) Is the KW133482-29 rated for high-traffic commercial use or is it a residential part?
Commercial. Kawneer lists it as a commercial-grade service component for the Falcon 1790, and typical applications include offices, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, warehouses, government buildings, and multi-tenant residential properties.
