Kawneer KW133487-40 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Kawneer KW133487-40 mullion used for?
It's a removable center mullion assembly that sits between a pair of doors so each leaf can latch a rim panic device against it. Pull the mullion out and you get the full width of the opening for moving equipment or furniture, then drop it back in and the pair secures normally. Kawneer builds it as a service replacement part for touchbar rim panic device openings.
2) Will this mullion work with surface vertical rod or concealed rod exit devices?
No. The KW133487-40 is sized and prepped for touchbar rim panic devices, which latch sideways into the mullion. Vertical rod devices latch at the head and threshold and are used precisely so a pair of doors needs no mullion at all, so pairing them with this assembly is the wrong approach.
3) What finish is the Kawneer KW133487-40 mullion, and will it match my other storefront hardware?
Dark Bronze, applied at the factory. It matches Kawneer dark bronze storefront framing and panic hardware. If your openings are clear anodized or black, this mullion will not blend with them.
4) Is the KW133487-40 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
It is a genuine Kawneer service part, model KW133487-40, made to original equipment specification. For property managers standardizing an entrance already built with Kawneer framing, that matters, since the mullion must index to the existing Kawneer top and bottom receivers.
5) Do I need one mullion for a pair of doors or one per leaf?
One assembly serves the whole pair. It is the single center post both leaves latch into, so a double-door opening takes one KW133487-40, not two.
6) Is this mullion rated for commercial high traffic entrances?
It's a commercial-grade component, intended for high-traffic paired entries such as office buildings, schools, healthcare corridors, retail entries and municipal buildings. It is not a residential item.
