Kawneer KW033543-40 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Kawneer KW033543-40 removable mullion assembly do on a pair of doors?
It's the center mullion for a double-door opening running Falcon 2090 rim panic devices. The rim device latches into the mullion rather than into the opposite door leaf, and the mullion itself lifts out when you need the full clear width of the pair for moving equipment or furniture through. The KW033543-40 is the 96 inch height version in Dark Bronze.
2) Can I use this mullion with a surface vertical rod exit device instead of a rim device?
No. Removable mullions pair with rim exit devices, which latch horizontally into the mullion. Surface or concealed vertical rod devices latch at the head and threshold of each leaf and are used specifically when you do not want a mullion in the opening. The KW033543-40 is built for the Falcon 2090 rim panic.
3) Is the KW033543-40 an OEM Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
It's a Kawneer service part, made to Kawneer's own specification for replacement on existing installations. That matters on aluminum storefront work, where the mullion has to land in the original top and bottom prep without drilling new anchor points.
4) Do I order one mullion per pair of doors or one per leaf?
One per pair. The mullion sits at the center of the opening between the two leaves, and both rim devices latch into it. The KW033543-40 covers a single 96 inch double-door opening.
5) Will the Dark Bronze finish match my existing aluminum storefront doors?
The Dark Bronze on this mullion is a factory finish intended to match Kawneer and comparable aluminum framing systems, which is the common dark bronze anodized look on commercial storefront. If your frames are clear anodized or painted white, the mullion will read as a contrasting vertical element in the middle of the pair.
6) Is this mullion suitable for a residential double door?
It's a commercial part. The KW033543-40 is intended for commercial openings, typically office lobbies, school corridors, healthcare entries, retail storefront pairs and warehouse exit pairs, where a panic device pair is required.
