Kawneer KW133501-17 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Kawneer KW133501-17 and what device does it fit?
The KW133501-17 is a genuine Kawneer service replacement part for the Falcon 1690 Concealed Panic exit device. It is built for 36 inch door applications in a left-handed configuration with a clear aluminum finish, so it drops into the existing Falcon 1690 concealed panic assembly without field adaptation.
2) Will the KW133501-17 work on a right-hand door?
No. This part comes factory-configured left-handed and cannot be reversed in the field, so a right-hand opening needs the corresponding right-hand Kawneer service part instead. Handing on an exit device is taken from the secure side with the door swinging away from you.
3) Can I use this Kawneer part on a 42 inch or 30 inch door?
No. The KW133501-17 is sized for 36 inch door applications, which is the common commercial leaf width. A wider or narrower leaf needs the Kawneer service part cut for that door width, since concealed panic components are length-specific to the door.
4) Will the clear aluminum finish match the rest of my Falcon 1690 hardware?
Clear aluminum is the finish Kawneer supplies to match original Falcon 1690 concealed panic hardware, so a single replaced leaf in a bank of aluminum storefront doors won't read as a mismatch. If your existing devices were specified in a dark bronze or painted finish, this one will not blend.
5) Is this an aftermarket copy or a genuine Kawneer part?
It is supplied through the Kawneer service parts program and made to the original equipment specifications of the Falcon 1690 concealed panic system. For facilities that have to keep a certified egress assembly intact, that matters more than a generic equivalent.
6) Do I have to replace the whole exit device, or just this component?
This is a replacement component for the Falcon 1690 concealed panic device, not a complete device. If the rest of the assembly is sound, swapping this part restores the opening and keeps the existing concealed hardware in place, which is normally faster than pulling and re-prepping the door.
7) Is the KW133501-17 rated for high traffic commercial openings?
It is a commercial part, built to the commercial-grade standards of the Falcon 1690 series for high-traffic environments. Typical placements are office buildings, schools, healthcare, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential, and municipal buildings.
