Kawneer KW137809-29 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW137809-29 cover fit an LCN 1260 door closer?
Yes. The KW137809-29 is a genuine Kawneer service part made as a direct replacement cover for the LCN 1260 series closer, so it seats on the closer body without modification. It is a cover only, not a closer body or arm, so the existing 1260 closer stays on the door.
2) My building's LCN 1260 closer cover is cracked and missing - do I have to replace the whole closer?
No. The cover is sold on its own as the KW137809-29, so a damaged, worn, or missing housing can be swapped out while the closer stays in place. It restores the protective housing and the finished look of the assembly, which is the usual fix for a property manager dealing with a beat-up closer in a lobby or corridor.
3) What finish is the Kawneer KW137809-29 closer cover, and will it match my other doors?
Black. It is finished to match original LCN 1260 closer installations, so if the other openings in the building already run black 1260 closers, the replacement cover blends in rather than standing out as a patch repair. If your existing closers are aluminum or bronze, this black cover will not match them.
4) Do I need any extra hardware or special tools to install the KW137809-29 cover?
No additional hardware is required. Kawneer supplies it as a drop-in replacement that installs with standard door hardware service equipment, so a maintenance tech can do the swap without ordering brackets or fasteners alongside it.
5) Is this cover an aftermarket part or a genuine Kawneer replacement?
Genuine. The KW137809-29 comes through Kawneer's authorized service parts program rather than the aftermarket, which is what matters on a spec job where the door package was supplied by Kawneer and the facility wants the original part number on the work order.
6) Is the KW137809-29 closer cover suitable for high-traffic commercial buildings?
It is a commercial part, built to the same standards as the original LCN 1260 cover for high-traffic use. Typical placements are office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, government buildings, industrial sites, and multi-tenant residential.
