Kawneer KW137809-40 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What exactly is the Kawneer KW137809-40 part?
It's the cover only, not a closer. The KW137809-40 is a genuine Kawneer OEM replacement cover for the LCN 1260 series door closer, finished in Dark Bronze. If your closer body is working but the cover is cracked, dented, or missing, this restores the housing and the finished look without replacing the whole unit.
2) Will this cover fit any LCN closer, or only the 1260?
The KW137809-40 is built for the LCN 1260 series specifically and drops on without modification. It is not a universal closer cover, so a 1460, 4040 or other LCN family needs its own cover. Confirm the model stamped on your closer body before ordering.
3) Is the Dark Bronze on this closer cover going to match the rest of my door hardware?
The Dark Bronze is a factory-applied Kawneer finish intended to coordinate with existing commercial hardware on the opening. Dark Bronze is the common architectural aluminum storefront finish, so on a Kawneer entrance it will read consistent with the frame and pulls. If your other closers are aluminum or brass, expect a visible difference.
4) Can I replace a door closer cover without taking the closer off the door?
Yes, in the normal case. The cover is a separate housing over the 1260 closer body, and the KW137809-40 is a factory-fit drop-in, so it comes off and goes back on as its own piece while the closer stays mounted and adjusted. No re-templating of the door or frame is involved.
5) I manage several buildings with LCN 1260 closers. Is buying just the cover worth it versus a new closer?
If the closer still controls the door and holds its adjustment, the cover is the cheaper repair. The KW137809-40 restores the protective housing that shields the internal components from dust, debris and incidental contact, plus the finished appearance, with no new closer to template or tune. Replace the full unit only when the body leaks or the closing speed can no longer be set.
6) Is this a residential or commercial closer part?
Commercial only. Kawneer catalogs the KW137809-40 as a commercial service part, built for the traffic and appearance standards of office buildings, schools, healthcare, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential and municipal facilities.
7) Is KW137809-40 a genuine Kawneer part number or an aftermarket equivalent?
It's a genuine Kawneer service part. KW137809-40 is the Kawneer model designation for the authorized OEM LCN 1260 cover, so it matches original design and finish standards rather than approximating them.
