Kawneer KW233727 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Kawneer KW233727 astragal and what door does it go on?
The KW233727 is Kawneer's service replacement astragal for stock height Panic Guard doors. It is the vertical edge member that covers the gap at the meeting stile of the door, giving the door edge protection and closing the seal. It is a commercial part, sold as a single piece 83-1/16 inches long.
2) Is this a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
It is a factory Kawneer service part, model KW233727, made to Kawneer's original specification for Panic Guard door assemblies. That matters on aluminum storefront doors because the astragal has to mate with the specific stile extrusion profile, and a generic astragal usually will not.
3) Does replacing the astragal on a Panic Guard door mean I have to change the exit device too?
No. The KW233727 is an exit device part that replaces the astragal alone. The panic hardware, rods, and latches stay in place. It is meant as a drop-in swap into an existing Panic Guard door, which is what makes it a practical repair when the astragal is bent, scarred, or missing after an impact.
4) I manage a building with several Kawneer entrance pairs. Can I stock one astragal for all of them?
Only for the stock height Panic Guard doors. The KW233727 covers that configuration at 83-1/16 inches, so if your entrances were built to stock height you can keep one on the shelf and cover any of them. Doors of a different height or a different Kawneer door series need their own part.
5) Is the KW233727 astragal sold as a single piece or a pair for both leaves?
It is one astragal, one part number, one length. On a pair of doors the astragal mounts to a single leaf and overlaps the other, so one piece normally does the opening. Order by the count of doors you are actually repairing.
