Kawneer KW233728 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Kawneer KW233728 astragal used for?
It's the vertical seal strip that closes the gap between a pair of doors fitted with Kawneer Panic Guard exit hardware. The KW233728 is a genuine Kawneer service replacement part, 108 inches long, and it keeps the meeting stiles sealed and secure on double-door commercial openings.
2) Does the KW233728 astragal fit both Stock Height and Variable Height Panic Guard devices?
Yes. Kawneer lists the KW233728 for use with both Stock Height and Variable Height Panic Guard exit device configurations, so the same part covers either setup.
3) Can the 108 inch Kawneer astragal be cut down for a shorter door?
The KW233728 ships at a 108 inch overall length sized for Stock Height and Variable Height Panic Guard applications. Kawneer publishes it as a drop-in OEM replacement at that length, so measure the existing astragal you are pulling off and match it before ordering.
4) Is this astragal for a single door or a pair?
A pair. An astragal only does work where two door leaves meet, and Kawneer specifies the KW233728 for paired or double-door Panic Guard applications. On a single door with a rim or vertical rod device you don't need one.
5) Will an aftermarket astragal work instead of the Kawneer part on a Panic Guard opening?
The KW233728 is built to Kawneer's own service-part spec so it lines up with existing Panic Guard hardware without modification. A generic astragal may not clear the device's latching or match the stile profile, which is why Kawneer sells this as a dedicated replacement component.
6) Is the Kawneer KW233728 rated for commercial use or is it a residential part?
Commercial. Kawneer classifies the KW233728 as commercial door hardware, and it's the service part specified for Panic Guard exit devices in offices, schools, healthcare, retail and municipal buildings.
