Kawneer KW450549-40 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Kawneer KW450549-40 and what system does it go on?
The KW450549-40 is a single-acting offset arm shear block package butt hinge, a genuine Kawneer service part made for the Trifab 450 door system. It comes as a package that includes the shear block assembly, so the mounting hardware for the offset arm geometry is part of the kit rather than a separate order.
2) Will the KW450549-40 work on a double-acting Kawneer door?
No. It is a single-acting (S/A) offset arm configuration, meaning the door swings one direction only. A double-acting opening that swings both ways needs different pivot hardware, not this butt hinge package.
3) Can I use the KW450549-40 to replace a worn hinge on an existing Trifab 450 door?
That is exactly what it is for. It comes out of Kawneer's service parts program as a replacement component for the Trifab 450, so it drops into the existing prep without modifying the door or frame, and keeps the original swing geometry of the offset arm.
4) What finish does the Kawneer offset arm shear block hinge package come in?
Dark Bronze. That matches the standard Trifab 450 dark bronze framing, so the hinge blends with the rest of the door assembly on an existing installation. It is offered as a single finish, so if your storefront is clear anodized or painted, this one will not match visually.
5) Will a Kawneer Trifab 450 hinge fit a different Kawneer series door?
Order it only for Trifab 450 openings. Kawneer service parts are cut to the specific framing series, and this package is called out for the Trifab 450 platform. Other Kawneer series use their own part numbers, so confirm the series stamped on your frame before ordering by model KW450549-40.
6) Is this a commercial-duty part or something for a residential door?
Strictly commercial. Kawneer Trifab 450 is an aluminum framing system used in offices, schools, healthcare, retail, government buildings and multi-tenant properties, and this hinge package is built to those commercial hardware standards. It has no residential application.
