Kawneer KW911690-40 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW911690-40 pull package fit any Kawneer sliding door, or only the 990?
Only the 990 Sliding Door, and specifically the Oxxo configuration. The KW911690-40 extruded pull package with slide operator is built for that door and that panel layout, so it drops in without modification there. On a different Kawneer sliding series or a different panel arrangement, order the pull package Kawneer lists for that door instead.
2) Does the KW911690-40 include the thumbturn, or is that ordered separately?
The thumbturn is part of the package. KW911690-40 comes as an extruded pull with an integrated slide operator and a built-in thumbturn for interior locking, so you are buying the pull, the operator, and the locking control as one assembly rather than piecing them together.
3) What does Oxxo mean on a Kawneer 990 sliding door, and how do I know that's what I have?
Oxxo describes a four-panel opening: two fixed outer lites with two sliding panels meeting in the middle. The KW911690-40 pull package with slide operator is made for that arrangement. Count your panels at the opening before ordering, because a two-panel or three-panel 990 takes different hardware.
4) I need to match the Dark Bronze on the rest of my Kawneer storefront - what finish does this pull come in?
Dark Bronze, and that is the only finish offered on the KW911690-40. It is the standard Kawneer architectural dark bronze tone, so it lines up with dark bronze 990 framing and adjacent storefront. If your existing doors are clear anodized or another color, this pull will stand out against them.
5) Is this a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket replacement?
It is supplied as an authorized Kawneer service part, listed under Kawneer Service Parts. For a property manager or GC working on an existing 990 installation, that matters because the pull and slide operator are cut and prepped to the original Kawneer hardware locations, so no re-drilling or field fitting of the stile is involved.
6) What kind of locking does the thumbturn give me on a 990 sliding door - can it be keyed from outside?
The thumbturn is an interior-side locking control. You turn it from inside the space to secure the slide, which suits tenant spaces and interior partitions where staff lock up from within. The KW911690-40 package provides the pull, slide operator, and that thumbturn; it is not a key cylinder assembly, so if you need outside key control on the opening you need the keyed hardware option for the 990 instead.
7) Is the KW911690-40 rated for heavy commercial traffic, or is it a residential-grade sliding door pull?
Commercial. The KW911690-40 is classified as a commercial part and the extruded pull construction is intended for high-use sliding door openings, the kind found in office buildings, retail storefronts, healthcare, schools, and municipal entrances. It is not a light-duty residential patio door pull.
8) Do I need to order anything else to replace a worn pull and operator on a 990 Oxxo door?
For the active panel hardware itself, no - the package covers the extruded pull, the slide operator, and the thumbturn as one unit. Rollers, tracks, weatherstrip, and the strike or keeper at the interlock are separate 990 service parts, so if the door is dragging or not sealing, inspect those while the panel hardware is off.
