Kawneer KW912267-17 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW912267-17 hookbolt lock fit my sliding door, and which Kawneer series does it match?
The KW912267-17 MS hookbolt lock package is built for Kawneer 990 and 1010 Series sliding doors. It is a genuine Kawneer service part sized to the original component, so it drops into those two series without modification. If your slider is a different Kawneer series or another manufacturer's system, this is not the right package.
2) I manage a property with several Kawneer sliders that won't lock. Is KW912267-17 the part to standardize on?
If those sliders are 990 or 1010 Series, yes. The KW912267-17 is the Kawneer service replacement for the MS hookbolt lock on those series, made to the original specifications, so ordering it for every affected opening keeps one part number and one key of hardware across the fleet. Verify the series stamped on the door or in the original submittal first, because the package is series specific.
3) What is a MS hookbolt lock and why is it used on aluminum sliding doors instead of a deadbolt?
A hookbolt throws a curved bolt that swings out and hooks behind the keeper rather than shooting straight like a deadbolt. On a sliding door the leaf moves parallel to the frame, so a straight bolt would be pulled out of engagement; the hook resists that sliding pull. The KW912267-17 uses that multi-point hookbolt action for secure engagement on Kawneer 990 and 1010 sliders.
4) Is the KW912267-17 a complete lock assembly or just the lock body?
It ships as a complete lock package assembly, not a loose lock body, which is what keeps a service call short for a technician swapping hardware on a 990 or 1010 slider.
5) What finish does the Kawneer KW912267-17 come in, and will it match my existing storefront hardware?
Clear aluminum only, factory matched to the Kawneer 990 and 1010 Series door systems. On a building where the sliders were originally specified in clear anodized, the replacement will read the same as the surrounding hardware. There is no other finish option on this part number, so if your openings are dark bronze or black you will see a difference.
6) Is this Kawneer lock package rated for commercial traffic or is it a residential part?
Commercial. Kawneer classifies the KW912267-17 as commercial door hardware, and it is used on office, retail storefront, healthcare, school, government, and multi-tenant sliding entrances. It is not a residential patio door lock.
