Kawneer KW912882-17 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What door system does the Kawneer KW912882-17 bottom rail lock fit?
The KW912882-17 is made for the Kawneer 1010 Sliding Door system and nothing else. It is a genuine Kawneer service part, so it holds the original design tolerances and drops into an existing 1010 sliding door assembly without modification. If your opening is a different Kawneer series or another manufacturer's sliding door, this is not the part.
2) What does a bottom rail lock actually do on a sliding door?
It secures the bottom rail of the sliding panel, giving the door a locking point at the sill rather than at the stile. On the Kawneer 1010, that keeps the panel held down and in track so the assembly stays secure. It is a locking component, not a track roller or a sweep, so if your complaint is the door dragging or air leaking at the floor, you need a different part.
3) Is the KW912882-17 rated for commercial traffic or is it a residential part?
Commercial. Kawneer builds the KW912882-17 as a commercial-grade service part, and it turns up in office building entrances, retail storefronts, healthcare and school entryways, hotel lobbies, and municipal buildings. For a property manager standardizing across a portfolio of 1010 sliding doors, it is the same part on every opening.
4) Do I need to order any other parts to install this bottom rail lock?
It is a direct replacement for the existing bottom rail lock on a 1010 sliding door, so on a like-for-like swap you are reusing the door's existing prep. Order only one lock per affected panel. Anything else in the assembly, keepers, rollers, or track components, is ordered separately as its own Kawneer service part.
5) Will the finish on this Kawneer replacement lock match my existing storefront hardware?
It ships in factory clear aluminum, which is the standard finish on the 1010 sliding door, so it blends with an untouched original installation. If the building's doors were anodized dark bronze or painted at some point, the clear aluminum will read lighter than the surrounding rail.
6) Is KW912882-17 one part number or do I have to pick an option?
One configuration. KW912882-17 is ordered as a single part in clear aluminum, with no handing, size, or finish choice to specify. Quote it by that Kawneer number and you have the whole item.
