Keedex K-BXDBL Double Weldable Gate Box 2 3/8 Backset

The K-BXDBL is a steel enclosure you weld into a gate frame so a cylindrical lockset has something solid to mount into. Gates built from tube or angle iron have no door stile to bore, so the box supplies the housing, the lock prep, and the backset. This one is set up for a 2-1/8 inch cylindrical lock at a 2-3/8 inch backset, and it's a double box, meaning it is prepped for lever or knob trim on both sides of the gate.

Yes, provided it is a cylindrical lockset with a 2-1/8 inch cross bore and a 2-3/8 inch backset. That is the residential-standard backset, the shorter of the two common ones, and it is the only backset this box is drilled for. If the lockset you have is a 2-3/4 inch backset, the crossbore in this box will not line up and you need a 2-3/4 backset gate box instead. Mortise locks and interconnected locks do not fit either, since the prep here is cylindrical only.

The box measures 4 1/2 W x 6 7/8 H x 1 5/8 D. The 1-5/8 inch depth is the number that decides whether it works: your gate frame tube has to be deep enough to take it, or the box has to sit proud and get welded to the face. Lay the box out on the frame member and cut to the 4-1/2 by 6-7/8 footprint.

No lock. The K-BXDBL is the box only. You supply the cylindrical lockset separately, and it has to be a 2-3/8 inch backset unit with a 2-1/8 inch crossbore to match the prep. You will also need a strike or strike box on the receiving post, which is a separate part.

It is a commercial-duty item, 14 gauge steel and weld-in rather than a fastener-mounted residential housing. That is the construction property managers and fence contractors put on perimeter and pool gates where a screwed-on box gets pried. Note that it is a weld-in part: there is no bolt-on option here, so plan for a welder on site.
