1) What is the Keedex K-BXMAS weldable gate box used for?
The K-BXMAS is a weld-in steel enclosure that lets you mount a Kaba Powerlever cylindrical lock on a gate or a tube-frame opening that has no door prep. The box welds to the frame and gives the lock a solid mounting body with a 2-3/4 inch backset, which is what the Powerlever needs. It is a housing only, so the lock, trim and any strike are ordered separately.
2) Will the K-BXMAS gate box fit my Kaba Powerlever lock, or does it work with other cylindrical locks?
The box is cut for the Kaba Powerlever and is a lever-handle, cylindrical prep at a 2-3/4 inch backset. If your lock is a Powerlever, it drops in. If you are mounting a different cylindrical lockset, match the backset first: a 2-3/8 inch backset lock will not line up with this box, since 2-3/8 and 2-3/4 are the two standard cylindrical backsets and they are not interchangeable in a fixed prep.
3) Is the Keedex K-BXMAS box heavy enough for an exterior commercial gate?
It is built from 14 gauge steel and rated commercial, which is the weight you want on a perimeter gate that gets kicked, pulled and slammed. Note it ships as bare weldable steel: after welding, prime and finish it yourself, because a raw box on an outdoor gate will rust at the weld seams.
4) Do I need to weld the K-BXMAS gate box on, or can it be bolted?
Welding is the intended install. The K-BXMAS is a weldable 14 gauge steel box with no mounting flange or fastener pattern, so it is tacked and then welded to the gate frame. If nobody on the crew welds, that is worth knowing before it arrives, since there is no bolt-on path with this box.
5) Does the Keedex K-BXMAS come with the Kaba Powerlever lock included?
No lock is included. The K-BXMAS is the gate box on its own, offered as a single model with no size, finish or hand options. Order the Powerlever lockset, and the strike or keeper for the receiving post, as separate line items.
6) Is the K-BXMAS gate box handed for a left or right hand gate?
There is one version, with no left or right option to specify. Because it is a cylindrical lever prep, handing is set by the lock you install and by which way you orient the box when you weld it, not by the box itself. Decide the swing and the lever direction before you strike an arc, since the weld is not something you undo.
