1) What is a Keedex K-BXRHO-1012 weldable gate box used for?
The K-BXRHO-1012 is a steel enclosure you weld into a gate frame or fence post so a cylindrical lockset has something solid to mount in. Gates built from tube or angle have no stile to bore, so the box gives you the flat mounting face and the protected cavity the lock needs. It ships as bare steel with no lock inside, so the lockset, cylinder and trim are ordered separately.
2) Will a cylindrical knob or lever lockset mount in the Keedex K-BXRHO-1012?
Yes, the box is built for cylindrical locksets, which is the knob and lever family with a round bore through the face and a latch bore in the edge. Mortise locks and deadlatch rim devices are a different prep and are not what this box is set up for. The 1-3/4 inch depth matches the standard commercial door thickness cylindrical locks are made to fit, so a normal-length spindle and screw pack works.
3) How thick is the steel on the Keedex weldable gate box?
14 gauge steel, which is roughly 0.075 inch. That is heavy enough to weld to a gate frame without burning through at normal MIG settings and stiff enough that the lock face does not flex when someone yanks the lever. It is bare steel with no finish, so it gets welded, ground and then painted or powder coated as part of the gate.
4) Does the Keedex K-BXRHO-1012 gate box come with a lock, cylinder or keys?
No lock, cylinder or trim is included. The K-BXRHO-1012 is the steel housing only, one model, ordered as KBXRHO1012. Plan on a separate cylindrical lockset for the box plus whatever keyway you are matching on the rest of the property, and on a welder to install it.
5) Can the Keedex gate box be bolted on instead of welded?
It is made to be welded in. There is no mounting flange or screw pattern for a bolt-on install, which is deliberate on a gate box, since bolts on the outside of a gate are the first thing an intruder attacks. If welding is not possible on your gate, you want a surface-mount lock housing rather than this weldable box.
