Keedex BX515175 Weldable Gate Box, Blank Weldable Gate Box, Blank No Holes

Blank, no holes. The BX515175 ships as an uncut box, so the prep for whatever lock or exit device you're mounting gets cut on site or in your shop. That's the point of the blank version: you set the hole pattern to match the hardware you actually have, rather than hoping a factory cutout lines up. If you want a box already prepped for a specific lock, you need one of the pre-cut Keedex box models instead.

Match the box to the gate you're welding it to. The 14 gauge steel version is the one for steel tube and picket gates, standard stick welding or MIG. The .125 aluminum version is for aluminum gates, since you can't weld steel to aluminum. Pick by gate material first, not by which one sounds heavier.

It's a commercial-duty box: 14 gauge steel in the steel version, which is the standard weight for a weld-on gate box carrying a mortise or rim lock on a pedestrian gate. For an apartment complex or industrial yard gate that gets cycled all day, that's the material you want under the hardware. The aluminum option is .125 thick and is chosen for gate material compatibility, not for a lighter-duty application.

That's exactly what the blank version is for. Because the BX515175 comes with no holes, one box part number covers whatever lock ends up on each gate, and you cut the prep per opening. Stocking the blank 5 x 15 x 1-3/4 inch box in both 14 gauge steel and .125 aluminum covers your steel and aluminum gates without carrying a separate pre-cut box for every lock model on the property.
