The K-BX4 is a blank steel box meant to be welded into a gate frame or post so lock hardware has a housing. Blank means there are no cutouts, so the fabricator drills or cuts the face to suit whatever lock, keypad, or reader is going in. That is the point of a blank: one box, any prep. It is a commercial-duty part, not a residential accessory.
2) What sizes does the Keedex K-BX4 blank gate box come in?
Three sizes: K-BX4102 at 4 W x 10 H x 2 D inches, K-BX4152 at 4 W x 15 H x 2 D inches, and K-BX458175 at 4-1/2 W x 8 H x 1-3/4 D inches. Two of the three share the 4 inch width and 2 inch depth and differ only in height, so if you are matching an existing box opening on a gate, height is usually the deciding number. The K-BX458175 is the odd one: wider face, shallower box.
3) Does the Keedex K-BX4 come with lock cutouts already machined?
It does not. The K-BX4 ships as a blank box, so no cylinder hole, no lever hole, no faceplate prep. You lay out and cut the face yourself for the hardware you are installing. If you want a box that arrives prepped for a specific lock, a blank is the wrong choice, order a Keedex box already cut for that lock family instead.
4) Is the K-BX4 a weld-in box or does it bolt on?
Weld-in. The K-BX4 has no mounting holes or fastener pattern, it is fabricated to be welded to the gate frame. That means the install needs a welder on site, and after welding you will want to prime and paint the box, since it is supplied bare for welding rather than finished. If the job cannot take a weld, this is not the right box.
