Keedex K-DLA Armored Door Loop, 1/4" Diameter, Flex 18"

The K-DLA carries low voltage wiring from the door frame across to the door leaf, so power and signal reach a device mounted on a moving door (electric strike wiring on the frame side, or an electrified lock, exit device or card reader on the door itself). The flexible armored conduit protects the conductors through every swing of the door. It is a commercial access control component, not a residential trim piece.

The K-DLA gives you a 1/4 inch inside diameter through the flexible conduit over an 18 inch run. That bore sets your limit: it is sized for low voltage conductor bundles, so count your conductors and jacket diameter against 1/4 inch before you order. If you are running a thick multi-conductor cable or two separate cables to one door, a larger diameter loop is the right call.

A door loop like the K-DLA is the surface-mounted answer: it screws to the frame and the door face with no mortising, so it retrofits an existing opening in minutes and stays serviceable, but the armored flex is visible on the opening. An electric hinge or a concealed power transfer buries the wiring inside the door edge, which looks cleaner and resists tampering, but requires prep in both the door and the frame and usually means pulling the door. For retrofit work, occupied buildings, and openings you cannot take out of service, the surface loop wins. For new construction or a high-security opening, spec the concealed transfer.

18 inches of flex is the common length for a single swinging door, and it is what the K-DLA gives you. The loop has to span the hinge-side gap and still form a slack bend that never goes tight at full door swing, so mount it near the hinge edge rather than out toward the lock stile. On a wide or heavily swung door, or when your mounting points sit far apart, measure the arc your loop will travel at maximum opening before committing to 18 inches.

Four: aluminum, black, duranodic, and white. Duranodic is the dark bronze anodized tone, so it is the one that disappears against bronze storefront and dark anodized frames; aluminum matches clear anodized aluminum storefront, and black and white match painted hollow metal. Since the loop sits exposed on the hinge side of the opening where anyone in the corridor sees it, matching the frame is worth the pick.

The K-DLA wraps the conductors in flexible armored conduit rather than leaving a jacketed cable exposed, so the cable is protected against the repeated flexing of an active opening and against crushing or pinching at the door edge. It is a commercial-duty part. Install it with a generous slack loop so the flex bends rather than pulls at full swing, which is what kills a transfer early.
